Tourism Some tourism links: England > Enjoy England l Rick Steve's Clips Brighton > Visit Brighton l Travel Brighton Brighton - brash and flamboyant, with a carnival flair - is one of the largest and most famous seaside resorts in the United Kingdom. It is a popular tourist resort with numerous hotels, restaurants and entertainment facilities, which additionally serve a substantial business conference industry. The modern city of Brighton is also an important educational centre with two universities and many English language schools. Brighton is also attractive for its gorgeous Regency architecture and its bohemian and stylish atmosphere. Brighton has been a playground for the wealthy and "the fashionable resort" since it was visited by the Prince of Wales and his entourage in 1783. The city has something for everyone to enjoy.
Brighton's landmark is the Royal Pavilion, a wonderful display of oriental architecture. There are also some elegant examples of Regency architecture including the Royal Crescent and Regency Square built in 1818. The oldest part of the city is called The Lanes (a short walk from the WABC2009 conference hotel) and offers narrow brick paved streets to explore. The Palace Pier offers the typical amusements and there are several museums worth visiting including the Doll Museum off King's Road that runs along the beach. For children there is the Volks Railway that offers a seafront ride and Peter Pan's Playground with typical round abouts and what not. For the culturally inclined there is the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery and the Theatre Royal which stages excellent productions. These sites can be seen in a few hours which leaves time also for the post-card pretty village of Alfriston, the white cliffs at Beachy Head or the evocative ruins of a Roman fort at Pevensey.
Brighton's night life is one of the more vibrant and lively in Britain. There are all sorts of clubs & discos, and pubs to sample as well as pub theatre, street buskers and magicians, weekly cabaret, live music clubs and several casinos. Brighton is for straights and gays alike.
And there is of course, the Brighton Racecourse for thoroughbred racing enthusiasts with meetings from April through October. Not surprisingly, with all this going on, Brighton is a major destination for conventions and exhibitions. Related Links
